Four student leaders from St. Edward’s Youth Group initiated a fundraising effort this summer to benefit Sisters Family Access Network, an organization that serves local families in need.
At the group’s third Youth Group Celebration in November, the students led three craft stations where participants created hand-painted watercolor Christmas cards, folded fabric star ornaments, and knotted rosary bracelets.
St. Edward’s religious education students also contributed by making beaded ornament stars.
On Dec. 7, following Mass, nine youth group members sold the handmade crafts, along with other donated items, raising more than $2,000 through the generosity of parishioners.
The Youth Group also sponsored a Giving Tree and a collection box, generating an additional $2,000.
In total, more than $4,000 was raised to support local families.
At the next Youth Group Celebration, students presented checks, gift cards, and donated supplies to Theresa Slavkosky, director of Sisters Family Access Network.
St. Edward’s Youth Group was formed earlier this year and has met four times and the group is already planning additional service-focused activities to continue its outreach to those in need.
